CPL LAWRENCE ARCHIBALD MEALIN
Lawrence (Burma) Mealin was born in Burma on 9 July 1948. He enlisted in the Army on 17 May 1967 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers but transferred to the Royal Australian Infantry on 13 October 1967. He underwent SAS selection in 1968 and was posted to SASR on 13 May 1968. Burma came from the Infantry Centre with the rank of Private on posting to SASR. Burma served in South Vietnam with SASR from 8 September 1969 to 13 August 1970. Burma died on 22 June 1976 when he fell down a coal storage pit at the South Fremantle power station in Western Australia while participating in a night raiding exercise. Burma’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his mother.
