Peter Rawlings was born in New South Wales on 4 November 1955. He enlisted in the Army on 14 August 1973 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Infantry. He underwent SAS selection in 1978 and was posted to SASR on 18 November 1978. Peter came from 2/4th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment with the rank of Lance Corporal but reverted to Trooper on posting to SASR. Peter died on 24 July 1982 in a parachuting accident while participating in a skydiving display in Perth Western Australia. Peter’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his father.
