Josh Porter was born in New South Wales on 29 December 1977. He enlisted in the Army on 27 June 2000 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Infantry. He underwent SAS selection in 2004 and was posted to SASR on 22 May 2005. Josh came from the 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment with the rank of Private. Josh died on 29 November 2006 in a helicopter crash aboard a Royal Australian Navy vessel whilst deployed to the South West Pacific. Josh’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his wife. He was the father of a daughter.
